Research- What should an advertisment look like?

Example of three advertisements, and how they relate to the dubstep genre and audience

Above is the artist Delilah who is from the 'electronic pop' genre which is similar to the artist Katy B from the dubstep, electro pop, funky house genre of music. Her advertisement is for her mixtape.|
The artists image is a vital part to advertisements and marketing as they have to look a certain way, in order to appeal to the target audience. In this advertisement she is wearing the iconic 'hoodie' which relates to an aspect of youth culture. Her target audience varies, but I feel that this advert would appeal to young females and males from ages 16-25.

Relating to my artist: In the planning and production of my advertisement I want my artist to be styled in the images according to her brand, in order to appeal to her targeted audience. As dubstep fans tend to look for conventional features that apply to their genre, the images chosen should represent and follow the elements of style that they are familiar with.

In the advertisement the digipak is featured on the left hand side with additional information at the side using white text. Throughout this advertisement and from the small print image of the digipak the color scheme is the same throughout, creating a visual link between both ancillary products. I like the fact that this advertisement is landscape instead of portrait, because it is different and makes it more dynamic.

Relating to my product: I feel that, I should research more into advertisements that are landscape rather than portrait, so I can finalize an idea on what type of image I would use in this promotion package. I like the color scheme due to it's use of darker color shades: Grey's, Blacks and Grungy Green. This I feel is an important aspect to concentrate on as my music video is set in an urban surrounding, so to reflect that onto my ancillary work, I think I should use similar dark tones to create a visual link between the both products.

Below is another advertisement for Delilah's new album 'from the roots up'. I feel that this advertisement works in cohesion more effectively with the digipak product. There is a graphic style link between both products which is why I prefer this. There is evidence of digital manipulation on the image used for the advertisement. Although it is the same picture I feel that the way in which it was edited to make the image look as if she used the tips of her hair to create the triangle around her, creates a more dynamic composition for the image, evidently attracting audiences attention into the advert.

Above is Example's advertisement package promoting his album and tour dates. He is an artist similar to Katy B from the dubstep, electro pop genre. I like this advertisement as it includes more information about the artist how you can get tickets, dates of the events and places. The same image is used for this advertisement as the one on the CD cover and the same color scheme of yellow, black and white is used in both products, this establishes a visual style for both ancillary products.

Relating to my product: Because my artist is new I think that it would be vital that I use an image that isn't taken from the side of her face. This is so that through advertisement their is artist recognition for the audiences. I want to use an image taken from the front of her face with the artist looking into the camera, this would be very effective. I also think that I should use a graphic design in my ancillary product to appeal to my target audience. I feel that the example advertisement is very simplistic and doesn't contain elements of graphic design detailing.

This is the Ellie Goulding  advertisement for her album 'lights' above, I like the use of graphic design included in this advertisement. The amplification of 'lights' is expressed through the glowing text outline and abstract gold sparkly color. I like the fact that the color scheme of black, white and dark colors are used so that her name, and name of the album cover in the golden sparkly color stands out. It doesn't include a small print of the album cover, but I know that there is a visual link between both the ancillary products, in my advertisements I will include a small image of my final digipak cover on the advertisement.

Relating to my product: I want to use a font and a bold color that stands out. I like the metallic glow effect that is used, it makes the image more appealing and effective the target. I'm considering using a black background and white text, and including quotes from reviews and magazines and possible tour dates.
