Rihanna- Where Have You Been
This music video is from the ' RnB, Hiphop' genre. This is one of my favorite music videos and I think it is a great example for what a music video should look like. There is an engaging tempo and the editing reflects this through the fast paced cuts. There are a variety of camera shots, angles and movement which is why the video is more effective. The mise en scene in terms of setting and costume are styled reflecting the genre of the music that the artist composes. This so her fan base and audience can relate to her. This video is a good example of 'Disjuncture' which Andrew Goodwin's theory demonstrates. There is little connection between the lyrics and the visuals.
The music video has been constructed to be aesthetically pleasing for her audience. The dancing base tracks reflect the song choice and upbeat tempo of the genre. The performance of the artist is what makes the music video engaging and exciting for audiences. The editing has used desaturated colors, special effect and filters which is very effective. Lighting is played on heavily in this music video and it is used in some areas to draw attention to the setting or the artist ' Rihanna'. The lip syncing is GREAT!! which is what makes it one of the best examples of a music video form. I think that it is the most important aspect in a music video.
Special Effect; Layering footage over one another to create this optical illusion. |
