Representation of women : Laura Mulvey
Representations involve many parts i.e;
gender,age,ethnicity,sexuality and place. In music video’s the representation
of females are often in order to suit men’s desires.
Laura Mulvey argued that ‘ Women act as a passive role while
men are active. The male gaze projects fantasy onto a female figure who is
styled to suit this desire. Women in the media are styled in order to suit
men’s desires. Dismembering is a technique used in many videos which is often
when the camera segmates particular aspects of the body, the use of this
evidently creates this speculation.
Dizzee Rascal 'Holiday'
In this music video the audience visualize events through the males perspective. Parts of the female body i.e; breasts, bum, belly and legs are focused on and segmated. The male security guard at the gate is symbolic to the male gaze that Mulvey describes. Over the shoulder shots are used of males looking at the women. This video provides as evidence to Mulveys argument.
