TAMARA AKOTUAH: RESEARCH - Informing the audience

Epilepsy Action is a charity who provide awareness for people with epilepsy. Kanye West's music video took an attraction to this charity in a negative way as they believe his music video 'All of The Lights' featuring Rhianna  had effects that could trigger and seen as suitable for epilepsy. No warnings where put on the music video causing big problems for the artist. Below are screen grabs of an article/report I found
Kanye West's new music video which has been amazingly popular this year featuring Jay Z however included an epelipetic warning but was still seen as dangerous as the effects could actually trigger epilepsy. Below is a screen grab of the warning of the music video and a gif image I found of shots within the music video which demonstrate the danger of the music video for epileptic audiences.

How will this affect my music video?
When looking over footage it was clear that the lighting of some of the clips had projected and created flashing/ flickering effects. If as a group we decide to keep these clips which contain the lighting problems we will need to consider the risks of the clips in terms of making our music video suitable for epileptic audiences.

TAMARA AKOTUAH: PRODUCTION - Todays session

Today we focused on adding a variety of shots to our music video remembering what our feedback was. I think one thing we keep forgetting is comparing our music video to Vernallisis and Goodwins theory. So I have decided to write out a list of all the different aspects each theory says a music video should include and we are going to edit our music video following those ideas. I think this will benefit our music video as it will have conventions which will follow both theories and it will make our music video much more interesting to watch.

Research- Into ancillary markets

I've been doing some research into ancillary markets, and overall I think that the internet is the most powerful way for artists to become recognized  I have been looking at the radio combined with social networking. The radio station that I think is best to look into is choicefm it is a popular station that appeals to a wide audience, but I know that many young teenagers listen to this station. It is fresh and updated and they appeal to people living in the urban city of London.

Production- Editing The Rough Cut

During today's lesson we continued to edit our rough cut.
We went through each base track to make sure that they were all lip synched, then we marked our soundtrack with markers on every 4 beats. This is how we have decided to edit each footage to make sure that our music video cuts to the beat.
We decided to start our music video with the traffic light changing from red to yellow in the first four counts, then we included footsteps going down to create anticipation for the audience we don't want the artist to be seen until the first words marked on our base track ''SO''.

This is a screen grab of the effect we used in the beginning of our
music video. We changed the speed to 40% to make the footage slower so that  the red
light can stay on for four counts till the beat changes

This is a screen grab of the timeline. We placed a marker of every 4 beats
and the markers with the double blue are marked when Juliana sings ''so'' and
'' something''

We locked down the soundtrack so that the markers don't move out of place while we are editing

TAMARA AKOTUAH: PRODUCTION - Editing

Todays lesson focused on putting all the base track sounds down and begging the order of the clips. W have decided to have the traffic lights as the start of the music video. What was really difficult was marking the audio for beats. We decided we wanted to cut every 4 beats as the music is not too fast or slow. This was difficult because of the noise within the class, it was very difficult to hear the song.

Planning- Wix Page For The Artist

Below are screen grabs of the wix page that I have been created and how it's coming along. I used some of the images that my group took during our photoshoot on the Friday lesson before we broke up for half term to create this page. I then did a mini into to an article about her new single disappear coming out. I thought that by doing this I can myself follow the artist as a brand which would help me during my ancillary work. When creating my digipak i can follow the ideas that I have already planned and formulated on how I want my artist to look, also how her image appeals to a certain target audience.

Research- Diamonds- Rihanna New Video

While we are in the process of editing our music video I thought that it would be good if I looked at the way music videos have been edited. The new release and most anticipated music video by Rihanna has been her diamonds single off her new album which hasn't been released yet 'unapologetic'.
This music video uses amplification and disjuncture similar to what our group wants to achieve in our music video. Reverse shots are used during some parts putting back in place objects that have been moved, footage has been speeded up in parts when she is running away from a bright light through darkness. In our music video we have used reverse shots, but haven't speeded up any parts of our music video yet so I thought that it was interesting to see how this music video used this technique.
