Planning- Final Song Choice

Katy B Disappear

Our group settled on this song by Katy B. It is from the dubstep, house music genre. As a group we wanted something modern and fresh that we could relate to which is why we chose a song from this particular artist.
When we were looking for a song our group wanted something that wasn't too slow, but something that had an upbeat tempo which is another reason this song was chosen. When we studied the lyrics we formulated ideas on how we wanted to shoot  our music video. By following Andrew Goodwin's theory on music videos we decided that our music video would be partly amplification and disjuncture. We felt that the title of the song ' Disappear' could have an amplified meaning of love disappearing in a relationship or a loved one passing away. The title also gave us the idea of the video being shot in black and white. The effect of this is to amplify the disappearance of something and we have used the disappearance of color to present this.

We felt that it was more practical and convenient for us as a group to choose a single with a female artist considering that there are only 3 girls in our group. We didn't want to pick a song that had a male artist, because we would have a problem of unreliability and someone that wouldn't be as committed to our group project, because they aren't gaining anything back. So we decided to chose a female artist that one of us would have to act out in our video.

Even though I received an email from Universal Music Company saying that I could use the Pixie Lot and Jessie J song choices as a group we really felt that the Katy B song was the strongest
of all the song choices that we had.
