Reasearch And Planning ( Independent artists)

I recently found a website called WIX. I am going to use this to create a website for my artist to present her brand and create her image. During my research into independent artists I have found that these labels use social media and viral marketing as a strategy to gain support and to promote their music. They use blogs, websites and social networking to allow fans to familiarise themselves with the artist and to get updates about shows that they can come to and where to download music from.

Starboy Nathan

There is now a lot of contraversy going on around this artist starboy nathan who recently audtioned for the X-factor and got up to the stages of judges houses and didn't get through to the live shows. People have stressed outrage that an independent artist who is already known to the public is entering a competition to win and get sighned to a major label. While his fans are excited for him and wanted him to win the competition so that he would be sighned to a major label which will improve his music standards and get more supporters for his singles and albums.

His case has shown the struggle of independent labels trying to get aknowledgement for their work and why they need to be part of a major label due to the cost, promotion and marketing problems that occur.

Channel AKA

Chipmunk and NDUBZ independent released albums

Both of these artists used this strategy to promote their music and to get them noticed as music talents. They paid to get there videos shown on channel AKA and made the videos out of their own budgets. Through this they were discovered and were taken on by major labels sony music entertainment and island records.

There have been debates about whether the artist chipmunk was better off as an independent or major label.
