Youtube is an online website that allows upload view and share videos. Many independent artists use this website to broadcast their own videos. They become prosumers , and share their home made music virally. I have recently been researching Wouter De Backer professionally known as '' Gotye'' a Belgian- Australian multi-instrumental musician and singer-songwriter. It was his online exposure that made his name go global. He is a member of the Melbourne indie-pop trio '' The Basics'', who have independently released three studio albums and many titles since 2002. it was only in his latest album '' Making Mirrors'' that he finally reached international success from his 2011 single '' Somebody that I used to Know'' which reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 11. He has won five ARIA Awards and received a nomination for an MTV EMA for Best Asia and Pacific Act.
His music video uses amplification. He uses art to express the lyrics and emotions of someone who used to be in a relationship and now that it has ended they drift away. The removal of Kimbra's pattern symbolises the end to their relationship.
